Broader investigations of licensed school staff
The investigation team can look into licensed or certified school staff, applicants, and others subject to licensing rules. This applies when they work for a school organized under Maine law. The change strengthens oversight of alleged abuse or misconduct by school employees.
Schools share records in abuse cases
Education can share school complaint and discipline records with Health and Human Services during an active child abuse or neglect case. Superintendents and treatment‑team members can get needed records to plan a student’s care, education, or safety. After a finding of out‑of‑home abuse or neglect by a school employee, the investigation team notifies the school’s leader. Shared records must be used only for that purpose and not re‑shared, except as allowed by law. Identities of reporters are protected when appropriate.
