New Michigan plates support homeless animal care
Michigan's Secretary of State must design and issue a fundraising license plate, working with the Michigan Pet Alliance. The plate highlights pet overpopulation and supports humane care and health care for homeless and abused animals in shelters and rescues. Donation money from plate sales goes into the new Protecting Michigan's Pets Fund. The State Treasurer must send fund money to the Michigan Pet Alliance every quarter. The fund can accept money or assets from other sources and keeps its investment earnings and year-end balances. The treasurer manages the fund's investments and serves as its administrator for audits. The law took effect immediately but does not state plate prices or donation amounts.
