Michigan Guard members get insurance premium help
The law creates premium reimbursement help for eligible Michigan National Guard members. It covers premiums already paid for individual TRICARE Reserve Select coverage, TRICARE dental coverage, or both—not family coverage. Eligible coverage is for members not on active duty or covered by a traditional assistance management program, employer plan, or private-market plan. Members must meet additional eligibility and application requirements set by Michigan’s Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The department must issue program rules and post the application form and instructions on its website. Payments depend on enough money being available in the Michigan National Guard member benefit fund. The law sets no reimbursement amount or cap and provides no separate funding. Its effective date is tied to enactment of Senate Bills 540 and 542 and House Bill 4962 from the 103rd Legislature.
