Homeowners gain coverage protection for police damage

For Minnesota homeowners, the law bars insurance exclusions for certain damage caused by peace officers acting on duty. The damage must involve chemical irritants, smoke screens, or distraction devices, and you must be owed compensation under state law. This applies to policies offered, issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2027. Local governments still must pay the compensation they owe. Insurers can still require you to transfer your right to seek that compensation to them.
