2026 filing deadlines for Place Three

The law sets deadlines for candidates for Chancellor Place Three who take office on or after January 1, 2027. If the act was approved by January 23, 2026, the filing deadline is February 2, 2026. If not, the filing deadline is May 1, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. All such candidates run in the November 2026 general election. Candidates must also meet the state’s judicial candidate qualification rules.

2027 chancery map and residency rules

Beginning January 1, 2027, the district covers Carroll, Grenada, Montgomery, Panola, Tallahatchie, Tate, and Yalobusha counties. The seats remain Place One, Place Two, and Place Three. Place One candidates must live in Tate, Panola, or Yalobusha. Place Two candidates must live in Carroll, Grenada, Montgomery, or Tallahatchie. Place Three candidates may live in any of the seven district counties. This sets who can run and which counties the court serves starting in 2027.

Third Chancery seats and counties through 2026

Through December 31, 2026, the Third Chancery Court District covers DeSoto, Grenada, Montgomery, Panola, Tate, and Yalobusha counties. The district has three separate seats: Place One, Place Two, and Place Three. Place One is chosen by DeSoto County voters. Places Two and Three are chosen by voters in Grenada, Montgomery, Panola, Tate, and Yalobusha. This sets who votes for each seat and where candidates must run until 2027.
