Testing vendors must follow national standards

Beginning July 1, 2026, any testing company hired to give Mississippi insurance producer exams must follow standards set by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. The vendor must develop, give, and score exams under those national best practices. This aims to keep tests fair and consistent.

New exam and fees for insurance licenses

Beginning July 1, 2026, Mississippi resident applicants for an insurance producer license must pass a written exam. The test covers the lines of authority you seek, producer duties, and Mississippi insurance laws. You are exempt only if current state law already exempts you. The Insurance Commissioner may use a testing company and collects a nonrefundable exam fee set by the Commissioner. If you miss or fail the exam, you must reapply and pay all required fees to get a new date.
