Lower pay for athletic commission chair

For FY2026, the Mississippi Athletic Commission chair’s annual pay for serving as recorder of permits and licenses falls from $43,060 to $32,500. That is $10,560 less per year.

More state money for emergency communications

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency receives $3 million from the State NG911 Fund for startup costs of its new emergency communications program. That is up from $743,000.

More child protection staff positions

For FY2026, Child Protection Services has $124.9 million for staff costs: $63.8 million in general funds and $61.1 million in special funds. The department may have 1,507 permanent and 422 time-limited positions, including six new Attorney Family positions. It must use $6.24 million in vacancy funding to fill positions, not to pay for promotions, title changes, or raises. Salaries must follow the state pay plan and minimums. The State Personnel Board tracks projected costs, and salary changes pause if spending risks exceeding the FY2026 limit, except for essential new hires. FY2027 costs cannot exceed FY2026 funding unless lawmakers add programs or positions; fund increases need written approval and proof of new money.
