Pay cut for Athletic Commission chair

For Fiscal Year 2026, the Chairman’s annual pay is $32,500, down from $43,060. That is a $10,560 yearly cut for that office.

2026 funding and jobs at Child Protection Services

For Fiscal Year 2026, Child Protection Services gets $124.9 million total ($63.8 million state, $61.1 million special funds). The budget sets $118.6 million for salaries and benefits and $6.24 million for vacancy funding. The agency may budget up to 1,507 permanent jobs and 422 time‑limited jobs. Six new “Attorney Family” positions are added.

Startup funding for next‑generation 911 system

The state provides $3 million from the State NG911 Fund to start the new next‑generation 911 program at the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. This is one‑time startup money to set up the system.

Pay standards and payroll transparency at Child Protection

Pay from these funds must follow the Variable Compensation Plan. No employee’s pay can fall below the State Personnel Board’s minimum salary. The Board publishes projected annual Personal Services costs using payroll data. Agencies must follow IRS Publication 15‑A for contractor tax reporting and withholding.

Tighter hiring and raise rules at Child Protection Services

Vacancy funds must fill jobs that were empty at the end of Fiscal Year 2025, not raises or title changes. Money for salaries, wages, and benefits cannot be moved to other budget lines. Personnel moves, when annualized, must stay within the FY2026 Personal Services budget; FY2027 needs cannot exceed FY2026 unless lawmakers add roles. If limits would be exceeded, the State Personnel Board stops salary actions, except essential new hires. DFA must approve any position or salary escalations and only when new funds exist. All FY2025 escalated positions become time‑limited. If total positions drop from 2025 to 2026, the agency chooses which jobs to cut. General funds cannot replace lost federal or special salary funds.
