The Mississippi Development Authority can use qualifying interest money from the loan fund for ordinary and necessary agency support, but not employee salary increases. The money must come from payments received after January 1, 2002, on loans funded by bonds whose interest is taxable under federal law. This authority ends starting July 1, 2029.
Starting July 1, 2025, Mississippi counties and incorporated cities can seek program loans for projects the state development agency decides are capital improvements. The law removes the specific listing for loans to help counties repay loans used to buy a movie sound stage. A sound-stage project may still qualify under the broader definition if the agency approves it.
