Who can serve and $50,000 bond

Beginning July 1, 2026, to serve as a water-district commissioner you must live in the county, be of good reputation, own land or run a business in the district, be over 25, and be of sound mind. Before taking office, you must post a bond of at least $50,000 payable to the State of Mississippi. The clerk of the board of supervisors must approve and file the bond. You must also take the constitutional oath before the board clerk and file it with your bond.

Meeting pay and limits for commissioners

Beginning July 1, 2026, commissioners are paid per meeting. In general, the board sets the rate, up to the state limit in Section 25-3-69. Commissioners are repaid for necessary expenses under Section 25-3-41. For listed districts, including the Tishomingo County Water District, pay can be up to $84 per meeting. For these listed districts, the 24-meeting yearly cap on paid meetings does not apply. For other districts, pay is limited to 24 meetings each year.
