Beginning July 1, 2026, the Military Department provides group death and dismemberment insurance for Mississippi National Guard members while on authorized state military duty. It pays up to $25,000 per person for death or dismemberment that happens during state duty. The state pays the premiums, calculated per man-day. Coverage applies only while you are on authorized state military duty.
Beginning July 1, 2026, Mississippi offers a voluntary state life insurance program for Mississippi Army and Air National Guard members. You must be a commissioned officer, warrant officer, or enlisted member to enroll. The Adjutant General sponsors the program and lets you buy, enroll, or change coverage and beneficiaries, with briefings during drills and annual training. The National Guard Association of Mississippi picks the insurer and runs the program. If you ask, premiums can be paid by allotment through military pay under DFAS rules. No one is required to buy or keep this coverage.
