Voluntary life insurance for Mississippi Guard members

Beginning July 1, 2026, the law establishes voluntary life insurance for Mississippi Army and Air National Guard members. All commissioned officers, warrant officers, and enlisted members can buy coverage, change coverage, and name or change beneficiaries. The Adjutant General sponsors the program, offered exclusively through the National Guard Association of Mississippi. The association selects insurers and runs the program. Representatives can brief members and families during training, drill weekends, and other scheduled events. The Adjutant General coordinates requested premium deductions from pay through federal offices under federal rules. Members do not have to buy or keep coverage; the law sets no premium prices or coverage amounts.
