Water shutoffs for late sewer bills

If the Choctaw district has an agreement with your water supplier, it can request a water shutoff when sewer charges are at least 60 days late. The agreement must provide notice and require reconnection after you pay the overdue charges and related fees or penalties. The district can charge customers to recover reasonable shutoff costs and expected lost revenue.

County can create Choctaw sewer district

Bolivar County can use available funds and grants to repair the Choctaw sewer system. After finding the system adequately repaired and improved, the county board can create a district led by three to five commissioners. The district takes over system operations and can hire contractors; the county can transfer related assets and funds. The creation resolution must say whether the county board will use its tax or assessment authority; this law does not itself impose a charge. The district can run the existing system without a state operating certificate, and the county or district must request removal of the county from related permits after transfers.
