Limits and duties for radiologist assistants

Beginning July 1, 2026, radiologists may use licensed radiologist assistants under supervision. Radiologist assistants may not interpret images, make diagnoses, or prescribe medicines or therapies. You may tell the treating provider when ordered imaging is finished. You may share only your initial observations with your supervising radiologist, but you can pass along the radiologist’s final or preliminary interpretation to other providers.

New licensing rules for radiologist assistants

Beginning July 1, 2026, you must hold a Mississippi license to work as a radiologist assistant. The State Board of Medical Licensure licenses and regulates this role and sets renewal fees. To qualify, you must be credentialed to work under a radiologist, be a Mississippi-registered radiologic technologist, and be certified and registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. The Board’s education and scope rules match national guidelines from the American College of Radiology, the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, and ARRT.
