Levee construction along Yazoo River

The law lets the Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission build a levee along parts of the Yazoo River in Yazoo County. The Commission can design the project, do environmental mitigation, and buy needed right‑of‑way. Federal grants or appropriations fund the project. The Commission can contract with public and private groups to get the work done. The law gives broad authority to take any steps needed to build the levee and defines which agencies can partner.

Long-term upkeep and federal control for Yazoo levee

The Commission can make levee maintenance deals with local governments for up to 99 years. It can also hand levee rights‑of‑way and control to the federal government. Local governments may give money to help pay for upkeep, which can draw on local taxpayer funds. These steps support long‑term flood protection for Yazoo County.
