4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 2 mixed.
You must pay $55 each month if you are on probation, parole, or other field supervision. Pay by certified check or money order. Your first payment is due within 60 days after release, unless you get a hardship waiver of up to 90 days. No one must pay this fee for more than 10 years. An employer may make these payments for you under state law. A judge can jail you until you pay if the court finds you can afford it. You cannot be jailed if you swear in writing that you cannot pay and the court agrees. These rules remain in effect through July 1, 2030.
From each $55 monthly payment, $50 goes to the Community Service Revolving Fund, $3 to the Crime Victims’ Compensation Fund, and $2 to the Training Revolving Fund. The Community Service fund can pay for restitution and satellite centers, drug identification, and intensive and field supervision. It may also pay for staff, equipment, supplies, and vehicles. Any federal training money goes into the Correctional Training Revolving Fund to expand training, renovate facilities, buy equipment, or contract with community colleges. Spending from these funds requires a request by the corrections commissioner or a designee. These rules apply through July 1, 2030.
If you are convicted of a felony, the court may add a state assessment. It can be up to the greater of $1,000 or the maximum fine for the crime. The money goes to the Crime Victims’ Compensation Fund. This authority applies through July 1, 2030.
The law keeps this section in effect longer. All related fee and funding rules now end July 1, 2030 instead of June 30, 2026.
