Retired state transportation and livestock-theft officers keep sidearm

Beginning July 1, 2026, certain retired state law enforcement officers can keep one issued sidearm. This applies to officers from the Mississippi Department of Transportation or the Mississippi Agricultural and Livestock Theft Bureau. You must retire under the Public Employees' Retirement System for superannuation or disability. The sidearm must be the one issued to you. The law does not change any other retirement or disability benefits.
