Pay raise for Extension professors

Professors and adjunct professors at the Extension Service may receive a $2,000 salary increase for FY2027. The law sets aside $241,395 from the Education Enhancement Fund for this purpose. The Institutional Executive Officer decides if and how to grant the raise. The period is July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.

2027 funding for Extension Service

The law funds the Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service for July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. It provides $34,365,575 from the State General Fund. It also authorizes $18,749,577 from special funds. Of that total, $1,391,395 comes from the Education Enhancement Fund. The money supports county programs in agriculture, family and consumer education, natural resources, 4‑H, and community development.

Buying tie-break for Industries for the Blind

When bids are equal in price, quality, and service, the agency gives preference to Mississippi Industries for the Blind. This also applies to purchases made without competitive bids. The rule supports that organization’s role in employing people with disabilities.

Service goals and reporting for 2027

The law sets clear outreach targets for FY2027 and requires reporting in the FY2028 budget request. Direct contacts: Agriculture 270,000 ($13.46 each); Family & Consumer 205,000 ($9.34); 4‑H 178,000 ($11.66); Business & Community 88,000 ($20.28). Natural Resources sets 370,000 total contacts at $27.75 per contact. Published info targets: Agriculture 300; Family & Consumer 150; Natural Resources 150. Mass media contacts: Agriculture 4,500; Natural Resources 6,000.

Stricter rules on spending this money

General funds in this act cannot replace lost federal or other special funds used for salaries. The agency cannot pay outside attorneys from these funds unless the Board of Trustees approved the hire before work began. Agencies may not incur debts or obligations beyond this appropriation. Officers are held responsible for any overspending. These rules apply for FY2027.
