Set salaries for commission leaders

For fiscal year 2027, the chairman’s annual salary is $132,460.99. Each Commission member earns $128,057.41, and the administrative law judge and executive director each earn $123,184.36. Commission members’ salaries must be equal. The chairman’s salary must be higher, as approved by the State Personnel Board.

Workplace safety training for workers

During fiscal year 2027, the Commission must contract with private industry for workplace safety education and training. The program uses the Commission’s existing appropriation. The law sets no separate amount for it.

Blind vendor gets a purchasing preference

The Commission must prefer Mississippi Industries for the Blind when competing bids for goods or equipment match in price, quality, and service. A similar preference applies to purchases made without competitive bids.

Mississippi workers’ compensation funding

For July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, the law provides $6,219,424 from the State General Fund for Commission expenses. It also provides $25,000 to the Second Injury Fund for payments allowed under Mississippi law. The law does not name individual recipients or set their payment amounts.

Limits on commission jobs and pay

For fiscal year 2027, the Commission can spend up to $5,055,251 on personal services: $4,832,641 for pay and benefits, and $222,610 for vacancies. It can have 54 permanent positions and no time-limited positions. Vacancy funds are for filling authorized vacancies, not raises or promotions, and personal-services funds cannot move to other uses. Annualized salary actions cannot exceed the fiscal year 2027 allocation. Fiscal year 2028 personal-services funding cannot exceed fiscal year 2027 funding unless the Legislature adds programs or positions. The State Personnel Board must pause salary actions that would exceed these limits, except for essential new hires.
