2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

10-year local tax break for battery storage

Beginning July 1, 2026, counties and cities can grant local property tax exemptions to battery energy storage facilities as “new enterprises.” The break can cover real and personal property used in the facility, but not autos and trucks on highways. It does not cover state or school district property taxes, unless other sections allow it. Exemptions can last up to 10 years from completion and can be split into periods. Ask in writing by June 1 of the year after completion to start on time; late first requests start on the anniversary date. This listing runs through June 30, 2028.

50% property tax break for large energy projects

Beginning July 1, 2026, a county board can cut up to 50% of a qualifying energy project's assessed value from property taxes. The project must have at least $100 million in private investment. It must generate renewable power (wind, water, biomass, or solar) or use battery storage. It must be placed in operation after April 16, 2021. The exemption is discretionary and applies to the project's assessed value.
