New rules for school election judges

The law updates who can serve as a school election judge. Judges must be qualified registered voters of the school district. If the county runs the election under state law 20-20-417, judges must be registered voters in that county. A judge cannot be a candidate, or a candidate’s parent, child, brother, sister, or spouse. A judge also cannot be the spouse of those relatives. Judges must complete state training and certification under 13-4-203. The law takes effect immediately on passage and approval.
