Public hearing before long tax increment bond pledges

The law requires a public hearing before a city or county pledges tax increment to pay bonds that would extend a district past the 15th year. The hearing checks whether finishing the urban renewal or targeted economic development plan needs that longer pledge. The local government must notify the county and the school district where the area is located. These rules apply to pledges made on or after the law’s effective date. The law keeps the authority to pledge tax increment for bond principal, premiums, and interest.
