Public hearing before extending tax increment financing

The law requires a public hearing before a local government pledges tax increment to pay bonds that would extend tax increment financing past year 15. The same legislative body that approved the tax increment provision must hold the hearing to decide if the plan requires the pledge. The local government must notify the county and the school district where the area is located. This rule applies to pledges made on or after the law’s effective date.
