Noncompetes banned for many health care providers

The law bans noncompete and non‑solicit clauses for many health care providers. Contracts cannot stop a covered provider from practicing anywhere after leaving a job. They also cannot block the provider from treating, advising, or asking current patients of the employer or affiliated practice to keep seeing them. Covered providers include psychiatrists and addiction medicine doctors; psychologists; naturopathic doctors; social workers; professional, addiction, and marriage and family counselors; behavioral health peer support specialists; registered nurses and advanced practice nurses; and physician assistants. This rule does not apply to contracts tied to the sale or purchase of a practice. It takes effect on passage and approval and applies to contracts made or renewed on or after that date.
