Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Reinsurance fees and federal funds secured

All reinsurance assessments are deposited into the state reinsurance account. The law also creates a federal account for the program. Federal waiver dollars, other federal or grant funds, and any interest go into that federal account.

Stable funding for Montana reinsurance

The law gives the state insurance commissioner automatic access to the reinsurance program account. The money can only pay program administration, operations, and claims. If this act and House Bill 2 both fund the same reinsurance assessments, the HB 2 funding is void to prevent double payment.

Reinsurance funding authority ends June 2031

The law ends these authorities on June 30, 2031. After that date, the funding and account rules in this act stop unless renewed.
