Automatic Medicare fee updates for Medicaid

The Department of Public Health and Human Services can adopt Medicare fee schedules for Montana Medicaid rates. When Medicare updates those schedules, Montana Medicaid updates automatically. The state does not run a new rulemaking or publish each update. Provider payment rates change sooner and may go up or down. This affects Medicaid patients’ access and what providers are paid.
