Schools must hold Freedom Week in September

Beginning July 1, 2025, all Montana school districts must hold Freedom Week in the last full week of September. Schools run exercises that teach about sacrifices for freedom and the nation’s founding values. District trustees must adopt a policy to ensure these and other commemorations happen, including days like Lincoln’s Birthday and American Indian Heritage Day. If a commemorative day falls on a weekend, schools may hold the activity on the Friday before. Exercises no longer have to occur during regular school hours, so districts can schedule them outside the school day.
