Regional pay updates for top state officials

The Department of Administration now surveys pay before June 30 of each even-numbered year. It compares similar jobs in North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. If that average is higher than Montana’s current pay, the official’s salary becomes that average on July 1 of the next year. This covers the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, superintendent of public instruction, public service commission presiding officer and commissioners, secretary of state, and clerk of the supreme court. The state auditor is covered starting January 1, 2028.
