Dedicated fund for Missing Indigenous Persons Task Force

Beginning July 1, 2025, Montana creates a special state account for the Missing Indigenous Persons Task Force. The Department of Justice manages the account. It can take gifts, grants, donations, securities, and other lawful funds. Money stays in the account with interest and does not expire each year. The department may spend it only on costs allowed by law and approved by the task force (44-2-411), and it is audited under the Legislative Audit Act. The law also appropriates $1 to the Department of Justice for the 2025–2027 budget period for these purposes. The Secretary of State must send a copy of this law to each federally recognized tribal government in Montana. The account and these duties end June 30, 2033.
