5 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.
The State Treasurer must transfer $40,000 from the general fund to the Missing Indigenous Persons Task Force account. The transfer must happen by July 15, 2025.
Beginning July 1, 2025, the Department of Corrections must give quarterly reports on inmate emails and device monitoring. Each report must show counts of emails sent and received, blocked emails, audit results, monitoring processes and costs, and mis-filtered incidents. The department also reports at each named interim committee meeting. These reporting duties end September 30, 2026.
The law adds two district court judges in Montana’s 13th Judicial District. Service starts July 1, 2025. This increases court capacity for people in that district.
Starting July 1, 2025, detention centers bill actual costs per inmate as the higher of 90% of the Crossroads provider rate or $85.30 a day. This replaces the old $82 floor. If House Bill 643 also changed this section, that change is void and this law controls.
The budget committee studies how to combine legal services across agencies. The Department of Administration reports on legal pay by September 15, 2025. It must deliver a consolidation plan, with costs and a fee structure, by June 30, 2026. The committee reports findings by September 15, 2026. This study only happens if House Bill 2 provides at least $25,000 to the department and $20,000 to the Legislative Fiscal Division. These interim rules end September 30, 2026.
