New fees for mental health commitments

The health department now sets fee schedules for people ordered into community treatment or into a behavioral health inpatient facility. The rules cover who pays and how costs are charged for commitments and transfers. The law does not list dollar amounts. The department sets the amounts and procedures in rule. People in these placements may have to pay the fees.

One-time $5,000 to implement this law

The state gives the health department $5,000 for the two-year budget starting July 1, 2025. The money pays for carrying out this law. Lawmakers state this is a one-time payment.
