Physical therapists can lead workers' comp care

Under Montana workers’ comp, a licensed physical therapist can be your treating physician. Advanced practice registered nurses can also serve in this role. The treating physician delivers and coordinates your primary medical care for a covered work injury or occupational disease. All treating physicians must follow Montana’s rules in 39-71-1101. If you live outside Montana or your insurer approves, a licensed out‑of‑state physical therapist can serve as the treating physician.
