Strict deadlines for petition sheets

The law sets strict deadlines to submit affidavits attached to petition signature sheets. For sheets with signatures dated 287+ days before the final filing date, submit by 273 days before; 196+ by 182; 126+ by 112; 98+ by 84. Each sheet must include a signed affidavit from the gatherer stating their name, when they collected, that the signatures are genuine Montana electors, and that signers knew the petition. After submission, the county must date-stamp, log, and give a receipt; late filings are rejected and not processed, and the law takes effect immediately.
