Uniform ballot design and handling rules

The Secretary of State sets one statewide ballot format for every ballot type. The rules cover fixing ballot errors, write-ins, stub size and content, where “official ballot” appears, handling unvoted ballots, recording voters and ballots, and ballot order. All candidate names use the same font size and style. After stubs are removed, ballots for the same race look the same, except for narrow exceptions in 13-19-106(1) and 13-3-208. Ballots list only lawfully certified candidates; president and vice president appear as state law provides. Paper ballots must show “official ballot” on the ballot itself, not on the stub. Election judges must give each voter one of every ballot type they are eligible to vote. This law is in effect now.
