Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Proof of academics for home and private students

For private school students, the head administrator must attest that the student is academically eligible. For homeschooled students, the educator must provide a written attestation, and the public school principal must verify it. The principal’s verification cannot include any test or assessment. The law is in effect now.

Home and private students can join, with checks

Students in home or private school can join public school extracurriculars in their resident district. Schools and sports groups cannot block them just for not being enrolled full time or for limited hours at the public school. They must meet the same eligibility and league rules as full‑time students. For homeschooled students, schools may bar participation if the student is not a U.S. citizen or not a Montana resident under state law. The law is in effect now.
