Easier activities for home and private students

The law stops schools and sports groups from blocking a nonpublic or home-schooled student just because of public-school enrollment or hours at the school, as long as the student meets Montana’s rules for nonpublic or home schools. These students follow the same participation standards and the same league rules as full-time public students at that school. For home-schoolers, the child’s educator must sign a written statement that the student is academically eligible. The public school principal verifies the statement and cannot give any tests as part of that check. This law is in effect now.

New citizenship and residency limits for home-schoolers

A school district or sports group can bar a home-schooled student from extracurricular activities based on U.S. citizenship status or Montana residency status. Residency is determined under state law. This rule applies only to home-schooled students. It is in effect now.
