Higher tank fees, more owner input

If you own or operate an underground storage tank, you pay an annual fee for each tank. The fee can be up to $300 for tanks over 1,100 gallons and up to $100 for tanks 1,100 gallons or less. The department may prorate fees for partial-year periods to stagger renewal dates. The Montana Department of Environmental Quality sets the fee schedule with input from tank owners and other stakeholders. The fees help pay for state and local work to prevent and fix leaks. This law is in effect now.
