The law standardizes how judges prepare to count votes in primary elections. Judges sort ballots by party and count each party’s ballots separately, including in counties that hand-count. Judges match the number of party and other ballots to the number of voters and use the state’s reconciliation rules if numbers differ. Judges list each party’s candidates separately in the tally books. Judges bundle voted ballots by party for return and bundle unvoted ballots as state rules require. The law takes effect upon passage and approval.
