Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Higher elevator fees and payment rules

Beginning July 1, 2025, the state charges set fees for elevators, escalators, wheelchair lifts, and dumbwaiters. Examples: routine elevator under 10 floors $200; 10 or more floors $300; escalator or moving walk $500; expedited or failed reinspection $1,000; wheelchair lift or dumbwaiter $100. For new or altered work, the permit fee is the greater of $200 or 1% of the contract price. Owners or operators must pay at inspection or when billed; the certificate of operation can be held until payment. Starting with fiscal years on or after July 1, 2026, fees adjust each year with inflation and are posted at least 60 days before changes.

Higher inspection fees for rides and lifts

Beginning July 1, 2025, the state sets maximum fees for amusement rides and ski‑type lifts. Examples: ALN application $25; major ride inspection $250; roller coaster $500; return trip $500; weekend/holiday inspection $500; kiddie ride $100; go‑kart per cart $50 and track $200; water slide $300; rock wall $100; train $250; bungee trampoline $100; simulators $100. Ski lifts: gondolas, chairlifts, and inclined railroads $500; J or T bars and conveyors $300; rope tows $200. Starting with fiscal years on or after July 1, 2026, these fees adjust each year with inflation and are posted at least 60 days before changes.

Inspection fee money stays with program

The Department deposits all elevator and amusement device fees with the State Treasurer. The money is used only for inspections, permits, and certificates. Unused funds do not revert at year end and stay for this work. The law also deletes two narrow subsections in these statutes; this does not change the posted fee amounts.
