If you are in Space Force military service and own a home, you get the same foreclosure sale protections as other service members. This can delay or change how a power‑of‑sale foreclosure proceeds. The change applies starting June 26, 2025.
Starting June 26, 2025, owners who qualify for the religious property tax exemption can file a late application. If approved, the county or city releases taxes billed for up to the five calendar years before that date. You do not get refunds for taxes already paid.
Starting June 26, 2025, if you lived or were stationed on a Space Force base in North Carolina for one year or more, you count as a resident of that county for where civil cases can be filed. Living or being stationed there for six months before filing also meets family law residence rules. The law also includes Space Force in the “uniformed service” definition used for related family law protections.
Starting June 26, 2025, documents acknowledged before a commissioned Space Force officer are valid for deeds and similar papers. These acknowledgments are treated the same as those from other uniformed services.
Starting June 26, 2025, state agencies that use this Part’s definition of “Armed Forces” include the Space Force. Space Force members qualify for any programs in that Part that use that term.
Starting June 26, 2025, active‑duty Space Force members, including reservists on active duty, are treated as uniformed‑service voters. You get the same voting rules and protections as other service members.
Starting June 26, 2025, Space Force members are counted as Armed Forces under state insurance law. Insurers must treat Space Force the same as other branches where the law uses that term.
Starting June 26, 2025, Space Force service counts the same as other branches for in‑state tuition. Children of active‑duty Space Force members stationed in North Carolina can be considered for the School for Science and Mathematics. Schools must identify students with a Space Force household member by January 31 each year, and keep that list private.
Starting June 26, 2025, Space Force training and experience can be used toward law‑enforcement certification. Commissioned Space Force medical officers are exempt from state licensing rules while doing federal duties.
Starting June 26, 2025, the Governor may appoint a current or retired reserve member that includes the Space Force to a specified commission seat. This widens who can serve in that role.
Starting June 26, 2025, the law repeals one state criminal statute. People and agencies are no longer subject to that law. Effects depend on what the old law covered.
