6 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 2 costs, 2 mixed.
Beginning June 24, 2026, public school units cannot use or support discriminatory practices. Schools also cannot force students, teachers, or staff to say they believe in the banned concepts. These rules protect students and employees from unequal treatment and compelled statements.
Beginning June 24, 2026, local boards must adopt employee conduct policies that ban discrimination under federal law, including antisemitism. Student codes of conduct must also ban discrimination, including antisemitism. These rules clarify protections for staff and students.
Beginning June 24, 2026, the State Board of Education cannot approve, require, or recommend trainings that the law bans. School systems cannot buy, provide, or give access to professional development that includes or promotes the banned concepts. Teachers do not get continuing education credit for any training the law prohibits. Educators must choose other approved courses to keep their licenses.
Beginning June 24, 2026, schools cannot keep offices that promote the banned concepts or are called diversity, equity, and inclusion. Schools also cannot hire or assign staff whose job is to promote those concepts. For the certification due September 1, 2025, each school unit must report any staff cuts, spending changes, job title updates, and where any savings go.
Beginning June 24, 2026, schools cannot teach the law’s listed “divisive concepts.” The law allows teaching about history and controversial topics when done impartially and without school endorsement. It also preserves First Amendment–protected speech and independent research.
Beginning June 24, 2026, each public school unit must send a written compliance certification to the Department of Public Instruction by September 1 every year. The Department must send a combined report by January 15 to two legislative committees. This adds oversight and ongoing compliance work for districts.
