Game and Fish budget for 2025–2027

The law funds the North Dakota Game and Fish Department with $104.7 million from special and federal funds for July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2027. It covers salaries ($37,008,098), operating costs ($17,788,258), land habitat and deer depredation ($27,183,516), grants ($10,089,976), and capital assets ($5,400,661). It authorizes 170 full-time positions. The budget director can move up to $2,000,000 between operating, capital, and grants during this biennium, and the department must notify the Legislative Council. Up to $100,000 from mineral-related payments for surface damage, easements, or reclamation on department land can go into the grants, gifts, and donations line. These are base-level amounts with no added enhancements.

Payments for midterm land conservation

The department can spend up to $2,777,778 from its land habitat and deer depredation budget for midterm conservation agreements with private landowners. Agreements can last up to 30 years. Owners have buyback options after year 15, year 20, and year 25 to withdraw all or part of the acreage. Deals follow the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation framework.
