Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Temporary registration now lasts 75 days

You can drive a vehicle you just bought with a temporary registration for up to 75 days. The director issues the temporary certificate. This extends the old 30-day limit and gives you more time to finish permanent registration.

No driving without required temp permit

If you live in North Dakota and work there, you must have a required temporary registration permit when the law says you need one. It is illegal to drive without it or to let someone else drive your car without it. Violations can bring penalties.

Clear display rules for plates and permits

License plates and temporary permits must be easy to read from 100 feet, day or night. Plates must use reflectorized material that meets state DOT rules. A temporary permit must go on the lower left of the rear window, the back driver-side window, or where the rear plate goes. It must be clearly visible and not blocked from the rear.
