Sales and vehicle tax breaks for fire departments

Beginning July 1, 2025, approved fire departments and fire districts do not pay sales tax on purchases used to provide fire protection. They also do not pay the motor vehicle excise tax on vehicles they buy or lease for fire protection. To qualify, the department must have an approved certificate of existence under section 18-04-02.
