Safe surrender for infants at approved sites

The law sets clear safe-surrender rules for infants. You can leave an unharmed infant under one year with on-duty staff at an approved site. If the baby is under 60 days old, you can also use a newborn safety device. Approved sites include hospitals and other places the state department designates. A newborn safety device must be part of the building, be staffed 24/7, and be temperature-controlled and ventilated. These rules define when a surrender counts under this law.
