Fuel tax refunds for ambulance and fire

Starting July 1, 2025, licensed emergency medical services operations and approved fire departments can get refunds of state fuel taxes. This applies to motor, special, and aviation fuel they buy and use. Applicants must apply to the North Dakota Commissioner of Revenue. Refunds cover only taxes actually paid for their operations. For motor fuel, the state cannot reduce refunds to fund the agricultural products utilization or agricultural research funds. Fire departments must have an approved certificate of existence on file with the state.
