Beginning July 1, 2026, the Superintendent of Public Instruction runs a free online database of government spending that updates at least monthly. Each payment shows the amount, date, recipient, paying agency, and the job title if it is pay to staff. For school materials, it also lists the curriculum, textbook publisher and author, and software details with the developer. Data uses standard U.S. Census and education codes. You can search, create summaries, and download files in common formats, and see salary and benefit data without names.
For July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2027, the Legislative Council receives $97,000 one time to hire a consultant for the feasibility study. For the same biennium, the Department of Public Instruction receives a one-time $500,000 to establish and maintain the spending database.
State budget units, political subdivisions, school districts, and state higher education institutions must submit spending data as directed. They must make sure the data is accurate. They must use existing resources to comply. These duties support the public spending database.
