Identify and notify military families in child cases

North Dakota Health and Human Services must check military status when a child's abuse or neglect case starts. This check applies when a person's child is the subject at the start of an allegation or assessment, and the department must decide within a reasonable time. If the person is military‑affiliated (any branch on active duty, National Guard, Reserve, or a dependent), the department notifies the nearest installation's family advocacy program about the allegation and investigation. The installation then reports the case data to the U.S. Department of Defense. The department may use a memorandum of understanding with human service zones to run these steps.
