Schools must place AEDs on school grounds following American Heart Association guidelines. Each athletic venue and school athletic event must have an AED in an easy‑to‑reach spot. Every AED must be unlocked, clearly marked with signs, and reachable fast—ideally within three minutes when circumstances allow.
The state health department and the Superintendent create a cardiac emergency plan template that follows American Heart Association guidance. District crisis teams adopt and review it each year, activate the team during a cardiac arrest, and share the plan. The template also requires AED placement and upkeep, training for coaches, nurses, and athletic trainers, and coordination with local EMS. Every public and nonpublic school uses the template and adds the plan to the district crisis plan. The plan applies on school grounds, at athletic venues and events, and at off‑campus school events.
