No-premium health plan for retired peace officers

The law creates a special group health plan for retired peace officers who are not eligible for Medicare at retirement. Coverage is through the state’s uniform group insurance program. To qualify, you must have worked as a peace officer in a permanent state or local job. You must have worked 32 or more hours a week, at least 20 weeks a year, for at least 20 years. Your employer must find you are eligible to retire. The board pays the full monthly premium to the insurer, and you do not pay any part of the premium. This applies even if you were not in the public employees retirement system.
