State employees on the task force keep their regular salary, and their agencies pay mileage and other expenses. Legislator members receive per diem at the legal rate for official duty and get travel and expense reimbursement paid by the Legislative Council. The Legislative Council provides staffing and administrative support for the task force through July 31, 2031.
The law creates a legislative task force to improve government efficiency and reduce costs. It meets monthly and at least once each quarter, and follows interim committee rules. The group reviews budgets and reports from agencies, boards, commissions, and the Supreme Court. It can take testimony, request state or private performance audits, and recommend bills each year to save money and remove outdated or duplicative rules. The task force operates through July 31, 2031.
The task force includes the chief information officer, the budget director, and the governor’s chief operating officer. It also includes one elected statewide officer named by the governor, one legislator named by the governor, two House members named by the House majority leader, and two Senate members named by the Senate majority leader. At least one member from each House and Senate standing committee that served in the last regular session must be on it. Members serve two‑year terms. Legislative Management appoints all members and formally names the chair, and the governor’s legislative appointee serves as chair.
