More respite days in adult foster homes

Applies to private‑pay adult foster care. The department cannot cap substitute or respite care below 110 counted days in the 12 months after the home’s first license. After that license is renewed, the cap cannot be below 220 counted days in the next 24 months. Days with 12 hours or less of care do not count toward these limits.

Extra help and safe monitoring in adult foster homes

Providers can hire a temporary assistant when a private‑pay adult resident needs two people to help. Providers may use a one‑way radio or a video transmitter with a portable receiver to monitor a resident within a short range. The provider must stay nearby while using the device. Written approval is required from the resident before use. If the resident is incapacitated, a family member or legal representative must give written approval.
