More behavioral health beds in West Central

The law provides $16 million to Health and Human Services for 2025–2027. The money funds a grant to add inpatient behavioral health beds in the West Central Human Service Center region. A project can get the grant only if it adds 30 beds. DHHS runs and awards the grant.

Grant rules: 10-year operation, faster awards

Grant recipients must run the funded facility for at least 10 years. If they stop early, they must repay the grant. DHHS cannot release funds until the building is finished and the recipient files an adequate staffing plan. Starting July 1, 2025, grant selection, awards, and payments are exempt from chapter 54-44.4 procurement rules, which can speed awards.
