Dentists get payment choice and fee transparency

Dental plans and their vendors cannot make credit cards the only way to pay dentists. When they start or change electronic payments, including virtual cards, they must tell dentists about all fees. They must list other payment options and explain how to choose a no-fee option. They must say if they share in any credit card fee profits. Plans and vendors cannot add a fee just to send a bank transfer unless the dentist agreed.

Agent fees on dentist bank transfers

If a dentist uses an agent to handle bank transfers, the agent may charge a reasonable fee. This can cover transaction, data, or portal services tied to the payment. The law does not define “reasonable,” so the cost depends on your contract.
